Charter of Rights of Victims and Survivors of Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment

The Charter of Rights of Victims and Survivors of Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment was officially launched at the United Nations Human Rights Council in March 2026. Developed through extensive consultation with survivors from around the world, it places their voices, rights, and lived experiences at the centre of efforts to prevent torture and support recovery.

As an organisation, working alongside refugees and survivors of torture and trauma, the Migrant Resource Centre Tasmania recognises the Charter as an important step forward in promoting dignity, justice and meaningful participation. Sharing the Charter helps raise awareness of survivors’ rights and strengthens our collective commitment to healing, inclusion, and human rights for all.

We encourage you to read it and share it widely. Click here to download the Charter.
